Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I join?

You can join by applying on our sign-up link (http://tinyurl.com/blycsignup), finding the BLYC booth at CCA Feste or approaching any friendly BLYC senior! :)

2. What sets Boon Lay Youth Club apart from the other service opportunities in school?

Members of the club have a free rein in organising any type of event of their interest, as long as they meet the needs of the residents in Boon Lay. This makes their experience in the club one that is more meaningful to themselves personally. Whether a project is long-term, short-term, arts-related, health-related etc. is decided by members themselves :)

3. What is the difference between a CCA and a Student-Initiated Group (SIG)?

As a student-initiated group, BLYC will not have official CCA records like sporting or performing CCAs. However, club members will still be given many opportunities to plan service projects recognised by the school, engage in direct service (like other Service CCAs), and gain leadership experience through project planning.

4. Must I live in Boon Lay to join the Youth Club?

Of course not! Many of our members come as far as the other end of the green and purple lines.

5. Do I have to go down to Boon Lay often?

You will only have to go to Boon Lay as often as you need to organise your event. Most of the planning will be done during self-initiated meetings in school. Naturally, you will have to go there for recces and a few meetings with Boon Lay Grassroots Leaders, and to execute your own event.

6. Why Boon Lay?

Our club was started in 2002 when the RI campus was located in Ghim Moh and Boon Lay was nearby and a community which students wanted to serve. Boon Lay remains as one of the more needy communities around Singapore.

 7. Is the Youth Club politically linked to the PAP?

While we work closely with the grassroots (because they are the ones who understand the residents best and can support our projects), we have no political agenda and do not partake in any partisan activities.
